The Future of Knowledge Sharing
Complex Cardiac is an international collaborative effort of medical leaders to create an interactive and informative online e-book addressing the "Management of Multi Organ System Dysfunction in the Complex Cardiac Patient". The project will utilize new ways to share state-of-the-art medical knowledge in management of complex cardiac cases. Information will be updated in real time, with ongoing plans to make available in several languages including English, Spanish, German, Arabic, Japanese and Hindi. Our editorial board includes international leaders and experts in various fields of medicine. The readily available scholars and educators skilled in the field who command various languages and have mature relations in different countries across the globe, have encouraged to pursue this new, innovative and non-traditional book concept that is web-based, and web-accessed via mobile phones, tablets and the likes. The Reasons The increasing age of population in the United States and elsewhere around the globe, along with the increasing dependence on modern transportation, decreased walking and exercise, worsening life-styles, and increased caloric intake, have led to the rise in the incidence of multiple co-morbid factors leading to increased prevalence of DM, obesity, systemic arterial hypertension, COPD and ultimately increased rate of CV related illnesses and deaths. |
The Content
The book is divided in its content into four key domains: 1. Cardiology evaluation and intervention starting with the initial encounter and continuing through the entire care period of patients 2. Surgical operative care with attention to technical details of peri-operative evaluation, decision making on operability, operative plans and detailed descriptions of operative procedures 3. Anesthetic management of such patients with detailed descriptions of the important role of the anesthesiologist in the intra-operative decision making, monitoring, treatment and the overall execution of operative procedures 4. Critical Care Medicine and the multi disciplinary team work required to provide peri-operative critical care management in such patients who would need simultaneous treatment to more than one organ dysfunction, each of which may independently be life threatening. The Purpose The interplay of multiple co-morbid factors in greater proportions of patients requiring cardiovascular interventional therapy in face of multi organ system dysfunction have led us to publish our collective experiences utilizing this new and innovative e-book. It will be electronically available to any knowledge seeker, irrespective of her/his geographic location, instantaneously without having to face the delays of classic printed textbooks that require longer times to produce and require further delays in shipping and delivery.
